What it does
The online converter and compressor you've been pasting private files into, running on your phone instead.
Free web converters and "reduce file size" sites are free because your file is the product. Recast does the same jobs with Apple's own media frameworks, offline, and then forgets about it.
Images
Between JPEG, PNG, HEIC and more. Orientation is written into the pixels for formats that can't store a rotation tag, so nothing arrives sideways.
Video & audio
Hardware-accelerated re-encoding, and a target size if you need one. Long files are processed a piece at a time so a big video doesn't exhaust memory.
Live Photos
A dedicated picker that opens straight to your Live Photos. Export the still, the video, or both — the part everything else gets wrong.
PDFs & GIFs
Multi-page PDFs handled page by page, and GIFs converted to small MP4s that still autoplay everywhere you'd send them.
Compress to a size
On the Compress tab, pick a target — under 10 MB for Discord, 25 MB for email, or any size you type — and Recast re-encodes a photo, video, PDF, GIF or audio file to hit it.
Zip anything
Any other file, or a whole batch picked at once, is bundled into a single smaller ZIP — one tidy archive to send instead of a pile of attachments.
Honest about limits
If it can't reach the size you asked for while keeping the result watchable, it says so instead of quietly handing you something unusable. Force it is a separate, deliberate button.
Nothing left behind
A file is only written when you choose to save or share it. Working copies live in temporary storage and are cleared automatically. Cancel at any point and your original is untouched.
The promise
Pay once. There is no server.
No account, no subscription, no tracking, no upload. The App Store privacy label reads "Data Not Collected" because that's what the app does — nothing. Buy it once and it's yours.
