Recast converts and compresses files on your iPhone or iPad - images, video, audio, PDFs, GIFs and Live Photos - without uploading anything.

Recast has two tabs along the bottom: Convert and Compress. Both work entirely on your device.
How do I convert a Live Photo? Use the dedicated Live Photos button. It opens straight to your Live Photos, and you can export the still image, the video, or both.
Will it always hit my target file size? For video, if full resolution can't reach your target, Recast lowers the resolution until it fits and tells you on the result that it did. If a file is already under your target, Recast leaves it exactly as it was and it doesn't use up a free file. If a file still can't get all the way down, such as some PDFs, the result shows the smallest size Recast could reach without ruining it.
How many files can I do for free? Five on each tool (Convert and Compress) to start, then one more free file every day, up to three saved up. When you want another, you can watch an advert for one more. The first advert of the day earns a file on its own; after that it takes a few more. Adverts are always optional.
What does Recast Pro add? Recast Pro is a single £4.99 payment, not a subscription. It gives you unlimited files with no daily limit, no adverts, whole batches at once, images combined into one PDF, and Recast actions in Shortcuts and on the Action button. It works on every iPhone and iPad signed in to the same Apple Account.
I bought Pro, or bought Recast when it was a paid app, but it's locked. Open Recast's settings and tap Restore purchases. If you bought Recast before it became free, Pro is already yours and unlocks by itself.
Can I compress without opening the app? Yes. Share a photo or PDF to Recast from the share sheet in another app. Videos need the app itself.
My photo came out rotated. Recast writes the orientation into the pixels for formats that can't store an orientation tag, such as PNG and BMP, so this shouldn't happen. If you do see it, please send feedback with the original file.
A large file is taking a while. Long videos and multi-page PDFs are processed a piece at a time so they don't exhaust memory. You can cancel at any point, and a cancelled conversion leaves your original untouched.
Where did my converted file go? Your recent results are listed under Recent on the Convert and Compress tabs, ready to save or share again. They are kept on this device only, older ones are removed as new ones come in, and Clear removes them straight away. Working copies are cleared automatically.
Does it work offline? Yes. Converting and compressing never needs a network connection; every conversion runs on your device. You only need to be online to watch an advert or to buy or restore Recast Pro.
Recast never uploads your files. Adverts you choose to watch are provided by Google. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what that involves.
