Gridsong collects nothing. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising identifier and no tracking of any kind. There is no Gridsong server, so there is nowhere for your data to be sent.
None. Gridsong does not collect, transmit or receive any personal data. Its App Store privacy label reads "Data Not Collected", and that is a literal description of the app.
If you turn on iCloud sync, your patterns sync through your own iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. That data goes to Apple, not to us, and it is governed by Apple's privacy policy. We have no access to your iCloud account and cannot see anything stored in it. What syncs is your pattern library and your sound settings. Your own sounds and your audio recordings are never synced. If you do not turn iCloud sync on, your music never leaves your device.
Gridsong asks for the microphone only when you press Record a sound, so it can turn what it hears into an instrument you can play on the grid. The audio is processed straight into a sound on your device. Nothing is streamed, uploaded or analysed anywhere else. If you never record a sound, Gridsong never uses the microphone.
If you import a sound, you pick the file yourself in the standard file picker, and Gridsong reads only that file. It keeps the part you trim as a sound in its own storage and leaves your original file untouched. Gridsong never looks through your files or music library on its own.
If you turn on MIDI out, Gridsong appears as a MIDI source called "Grid" that other music apps on the same device, such as Logic, GarageBand or AUM, can play from. The notes you play are all it sends. Gridsong does not open network or Bluetooth connections of its own.
Gridsong Pro is bought through the App Store, and Apple handles the payment. We never see your payment details or your Apple Account. To know whether Pro is unlocked, Gridsong asks the App Store on your device whether you bought Pro, or first downloaded Gridsong when it was a paid app. That check is between your device and Apple, and nothing about it is sent to us.
Gridsong contains no third-party SDKs, no analytics frameworks and no advertising code. No data is shared with anyone, because none is collected. The only third party involved at all is Apple, if you buy or restore Gridsong Pro, choose to use iCloud sync, or save a video to your photo library.
Because nothing is collected, there is nothing for us to retain or delete. Everything Gridsong stores lives on your device and is under your control: clear a pattern or delete a recording inside the app, or delete the app itself, and it is gone. If you used iCloud sync, you can remove that data from Settings on your device (your name, then iCloud, then Manage Storage).
You can revoke microphone access at any time in iOS Settings, or in System Settings on a Mac. Gridsong keeps working without it - you simply cannot record a new sound until you grant it again. You can turn iCloud sync off at any time in the app's settings.
Gridsong is rated 4+ and is safe for all ages. It does not collect data from anyone, including children, and contains no advertising, no user-generated content feeds and no links out to the open web.
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date. As long as the app collects nothing, there is unlikely to be much to change.
