Gridsong - Privacy Policy

The short version

Gridsong collects nothing. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising identifier and no tracking of any kind. There is no Gridsong server, so there is nowhere for your data to be sent.

What data Gridsong collects

None. Gridsong does not collect, transmit or receive any personal data. Its App Store privacy label reads "Data Not Collected", and that is a literal description of the app.

What stays on your device

• Your patterns and songs - the notes you place on the grid, stored in the app's own storage on your device.
• Sounds you record - if you record your own sound to play across the grid, the audio is captured and turned into an instrument entirely on your device. It is written to the app's own storage and never leaves it.
• Videos you export - when you record a video of a loop, the file is written on your device. It goes nowhere unless you choose to save or share it.
• Your settings - tempo, key, instruments, balance and similar preferences.

iCloud

If you turn on iCloud sync, your patterns sync through your own iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. That data goes to Apple, not to us, and it is governed by Apple's privacy policy. We have no access to your iCloud account and cannot see anything stored in it. Sounds you record are never synced. If you do not turn iCloud sync on, nothing leaves your device at all.

Microphone

Gridsong asks for the microphone only when you press Record a sound, so it can turn what it hears into an instrument you can play on the grid. The audio is processed straight into a sound on your device. Nothing is streamed, uploaded or analysed anywhere else. If you never record a sound, Gridsong never uses the microphone.

Third parties

Gridsong contains no third-party SDKs, no analytics frameworks and no advertising code. No data is shared with anyone, because none is collected. The only third party involved at all is Apple, if you choose to use iCloud sync or to save a video to your photo library.

Data retention and deletion

Because nothing is collected, there is nothing for us to retain or delete. Everything Gridsong stores lives on your device and is under your control: clear a pattern or delete a recording inside the app, or delete the app itself, and it is gone. If you used iCloud sync, you can remove that data from Settings on your device (your name, then iCloud, then Manage Storage).

Withdrawing permission

You can revoke microphone access at any time in iOS Settings, or in System Settings on a Mac. Gridsong keeps working without it - you simply cannot record a new sound until you grant it again. You can turn iCloud sync off at any time in the app's settings.

Children

Gridsong is rated 4+ and is safe for all ages. It does not collect data from anyone, including children, and contains no advertising, no user-generated content feeds and no links out to the open web.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date. As long as the app collects nothing, there is unlikely to be much to change.
